Tax Statements

Tax statements hold all the information regarding levied taxes for Real Estate, Personal Property, Drainage, and Occupation. All the information about a statement can be found using the Tax Statement Editor. The information displayed on this screen will change a little depending on the tax type.

At the top of the screen is the statement information, the owner information, and a breakdown of the taxes, credits, and payments for the statement. Just under that is a section for property information and comments. Then depending on what tax statement is displayed there are sections for Valuation, Payments, Back Tax Statements, and Tax Sale information.

Corrections

Very little information about a statement can be modified without a tax list correction. Things like the owner's address, comments on the statement, important messages, and multiple receipt codes can all be changed without a correction. However, to modify things like the taxes owed, valuation information, or the owner's name, a tax list correction must be made.

To start the correction process, click on the Correction button in the Toolbar. If the county Assessor uses the MIPS Assessment application, a prompt may ask to grab the corrected information from the Assessor's office. Then select a correction date. This date will be used to mark the date the correction was issued, but also the void date for any payments that have already been made on the statement. Every time a correction is issued, any existing payments get voided automatically in case the tax amounts change. That way, the payments can then be re-applied to the newly corrected statement.

Once done, the screen will now be in Edit mode and almost all the fields are available to be modified. Make any necessary changes, then click Save in the Toolbar to commit the correction to the database. This keeps an original copy of the statement for history, as can be seen at the bottom of the screen in the Corrections section.
